When vacuum circuit breakers are put into service or tested, it is very important to check if the vacuum chamber of the circuit breaker is damaged or not before putting it back into service.
The VIDAR™ Vacuum Tester allows you to test the integrity of a vacuum chamber quickly and conveniently based on a known relationship between breakdown voltage and vacuum chamber condition. The corresponding test voltage is then applied to the circuit breaker and the result is displayed immediately.
VIDAR™ allows you to select the test voltage (six possible options) from 10 to 60 kV DC. The green lamp indicates the normal state of the vacuum chamber. A red lamp indicates damage. Two-hand operation of the device and a lamp warning of high voltage increase the level of safety when working with the device. The VIDAR™ Vacuum Tester has been developed in collaboration with leading manufacturers of vacuum circuit breakers. The small weight of the tester (about 6 kg) and its ease of use are very important characteristics, since the vacuum chambers do not have to be dismantled during the test. Vacuum in vacuum circuit breakers is not maintained forever. Leakage starts after many years or decades and switches fill with air making them inoperable. In most cases, the leak progresses quickly after it occurs. In addition to leakage, dirt on the poles and on the outside of the circuit breaker can make it dangerous to operate. The breaker mechanics can become distorted so that the distance between the poles is no longer necessary for correct operation.
VIDAR, developed in 1985, uses high DC voltage to test the integrity of vacuum circuit breakers.
